Snarky Candiru2

In today's strip, Mike and Lizzie plead with John to be allowed to stay up late for New Years'; since Elly has a fair idea of how anticlimactic it'll be, she's on their side on this one.

(Strip Number 530, Original Publication Date, 30 December 1983)

Panel 1: We start things off with Mike asking John (who's reading his paper) if he and Lizzie can please stay up until midnight tomorrow night; Lizzie also asks him "Please, Daddy?"

Panel 2: John is on the verge of explaining that no, they can't because they'd be tired all the next day when the kids both promise that they'll go straight to bed afterwards....HONEST!!

Panel 3: Why, they'll even sleep in to whenever he says; he's still on the fence, though.

Panel 4: Elly, who's been watching all of this, smiles and dares him to say no.

Summary: This is because she remembers something he doesn't; how boring and anticlimactic the first New Tears' she stayed up until twelve was.

Slightly off-topic:

June Morgan at Rex Morgan, MD, is pregnant.  She's a nurse, and it looks like Rex was totally caught off-guard, as in this was not planned.  She knows what causes it, and what can prevent it, and that no matter what (except for sterilization) that there is going to be a 3% failure rate, and we have no clue of why she would have planned one.  Anyway, Rex is all giddy happy about it.

Compare to a certain pharmacist, who had to apologize to her husband about messing up her birth control, and having a stranger make a comment about a "planned accident."  Of course, said pharmacist's husband was going to take off for a year, and had to quit his plans, but still, Dawn conceived before Mike started announcing his plans.
