Snarky Candiru2

Tuesday, 25 December 2012

Owing to a glitch at Foob Central, I've just learned that today's strip is not what I expected; that's because it's the one in which Mike's friends come over after Christmas dinner to look at the stuff he got that morning. The payoff line has John make a passive-aggressive comment about how they come up to neighborhood standards.

(Strip Number 526, Original Publication Date, 26 December 1983)

Panel 1: We start things off with Mike asking Elly if Lawrence, Gordon and Janice can come in for a minute.

Panel 2: It would seem that Elly said yes because we see them take off their coats while Mike explains that he wants to show them what he got for Christmas.

Panel 3: As she and John wash the dishes, they overhear the neighborhood children's praising Mike for getting some really neat stuff.

Panel 4: John makes a waspish comment about how he guesses that they come up to neighborhood standards.

Summary: The interesting thing is that I was expecting the children to be slammed for being materialistic and unappreciative today. I just assumed that the means would be different because I was expecting Elly's holiday cheer to vanish faster than Lynn can fill a panel with TEAR! SHRED! RIIIIIIIP!! so she can inform her readers that the children aren't playing statue but are instead opening gifts.

Coffee Talk: The War On Christmas Edition.

If there is a Coffee Talk this week, Lynn is going to go out with a bang owing to her "What part of 'I was pandering to people whose beliefs I don't share' don't you understand?" Lynnsight. That's because there are going to be people who read between the lines and finally saw her for what she is and people who don't. Watching their comments should be fairly amusing...assuming, of course, that we get to see them.
