Snarky Candiru2

In today's strip, Elly grumbles about the irritating habit small children have of not seeing the importance of hygiene.

(Strip Number 4372, Original Publication Date, 26 September 1983)

Panel 1: It's the kids' bed time and, as pretty much always, Elly is having trouble getting Mike to bathe. She tells him point blank that this is the last time she's going to warn him to get into the tub.

Panel 2: He starts in with a "But, mom" but she cuts him off at the pass by saying that she doesn't want to argue, she wants him to get in there NOW and wash.

Panel 3: As Lizzie dribbles milk over the front of her nightshirt, Elly grumbles that cleanliness isn't next to godliness, it's next to impossible.

Summary: Other than the fact that this is more or less where the treasury ends, there's nothing remarkable about this arc. We have Mike thinking that cleanliness is optional because he'll get dirty again and because he'll be criticized for bathing wrong anyway and we have Elly thinking that her messed up children want to destroy her because they hate her. Were she to think that they're just stupid kids being stupid, no one would be special and that's not at all fair.
