Snarky Candiru2

Tuesday, 21 August 2012

We find ourselves with a mildly sweet slice of life strip that is only partially ruined by its Lynnsight. That's because Elly has a brief episode in which she appreciates Lizzie's still wanting to be around her while the urge to do so lasts.

(Strip Number 4361, Original Publication Date, 23 August 1983)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Elly type her column. As she does so, she tells Lizzie to go outside. Lizzie doesn't want to and seems to want to be with Elly.

Panel 2: Elly asks her "Can't you see I'm busy?" and Lizzie says "Wanna stay here."

Panel 3: Lizzie says that she doesn't want to go out and wants to stay with Elly.

Panel 4: Elly thought-bubbles that she should probably enjoy this while it lasts.

Summary: She should but she doesn't. There's just something about having children underfoot that makes Elly feel uncomfortable and it will always come into play when it's least wanted or needed. My guess is that it has to do with something Liz would later say: "Mom is wrong. It is possible to do two things at once." What I've always suspected is that Elly simply cannot multitask.
