Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 14 June 2012

Gordon responds to Mike's wanting to make sure that he isn't getting ripped off by a greedy jerk by getting all huffy about how awful it is that Mike wants to cover his ass. I wonder how many smart people will come in and ask if this is why Lynn decided to make him a used-car salesman.

(Strip Number 423, Original Publication Date, 16 June 1983)

Panel 1: We continue on from yesterday with Gordon looking at his watch and telling Mike that his hour is up. Mike complains that he'd only just got going.

Panel 2: Gordon tells him flat out that if he wants to keep using his skates, he's going to have to fork over another two dollars.

Panel 3: Mike tells him that there's no way that he's spent an hour doing this and asks to see Gordon's watch.

Panel 4: Gord tells him that anyone who doesn't trust him can't use his skates.

Summary: This strip seems to establish a pattern in which Gordon is a different sort of bad friend to Michael. Lawrence is the bad friend who dares him to do stupid things, Weed is the bad friend who tells him that Mira is trying to ensnare him in her family politics and Gordon is the bad friend who's pals as long as Mike has something he wants. What Mike never gets is a good friend....which is a good thing for John and Elly because a good friend would make sure that Mike owned his own horses.
