Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 30 May 2012

In today's strip, we actually meet Janice; Lynn introduces her by having her engage in horrible, horrible imaginative play that ends up scaring poor, poor Elly. We also get guff about how she was supposed to be a primary secondary character.

(Strip Number 414, Original Publication Date, 1 June 1983)

Panel 1: We start things off with Mike leaning against a tree whining about being bored and Lawrence wishing that there was something to do.

Panel 2: Well, he was wishing that. Before he could get to 'do', a little girl in a T-shirt and jeans yells "EN GARDE!! Come out and fight like soldiers." This must be Janice.

Panel 3: As she boasts about how neat her garbage can lid shield is, Lawrence agrees with her and asks her where she found it.

Panel 4: She tells him and Mike that they won't believe it but the back alley is loaded with them.

Summary: The notes are all about how Janice was a character that was supposed to be important but for some reason, Lynn couldn't figure out what to do with her. She also probably had trouble reconciling Peppermint Patty with her idea of what being a real little girl is like too. Meanwhile, the 'joke' is supposed to be that this horrible little girl is taking trash can lids off cans and martyring poor, defenseless housewives by, I don't know, playing with them.
