Indignant Candiru

Tuesday, 8 May 2012

In today's strip, Annie cheers Elly on as she prepares to deliver her stupid ultimatum to Mrs Walsh. Having been cheered on, Elly has not been cheered up.

(Strip Number 4329, Original Publication Date, 10 May 1983)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Elly tell Anne that today's the day. Either she gets paid for working or she quits her column.

Panel 2: Annie tells her "Right on, El!! Lay it on the line." Elly glumly mutters "Right."

Panel 3: Anne tells the bleary-eyed idiot who happens to be the only friend an annoying know-it-all who won't admit that her husband is stepping out on her can have to go out there and put her best foot forward.

Panel 4: Elly thought-bubbles about how the other one will be in her mouth.

Summary: As always, Elly operates under the assumption that asking the simplest thing or making the mildest complaint to someone she cannot overwhelmingly dominate will result in her being, at best, the target of a vulgar tirade and at worst, getting shot in the face with a bazooka. Why this is is because, like all bullies, she assumes that everyone else is a monster too.

Okay you guys. This is it. The Big One. The Worst. Out of all the bad, ill conceived, infuriating story arcs Johnston threw at us in thirty's gotta be in the top three at least.

Snarkers and Snarkettes, I give you...The Going After.
