Snarky Candiru2

Sunday, 6 May 2012

In today's strip, Elly and Mike go nuts because they can't find Lizzie; if only they'd been this dutiful with April. Also, if only the Lynnsight didn't treat this as some sort of big joke.

(Strip Number 6109, Original Publication Date, 15 May 1983)

Panel 1: We start things off with Gordo, Lawrence and Mike walking up the driveway to the front porch.

Panel 2: As they go to their respective homes, he waves them good-bye.

Panel 3: As he starts to take of his jacket. Elly reminds Mike that Lizzie was supposed to be with him and asks where she is.

Panel 4: It seems that they were playing hide-and-seek and he doesn't know where she went.

Panel 5: A few minutes later, we find a panicked Elly telling him that she's phoned the neighbors and there's no sign of her.

Panel 6: She puts on her own jacket and states her intent to look for her.

Panel 7: Before she does, Mike spots one of Lizzie's boots near the kitchen sink.

Panel 8: Having found her in the same cabinet as the bleach and floor cleaner, Elly asks Lizzie what she's doing under the sink.

Panel 9: Since she knows that Mommy wants to hear her talk like a baby, Lizzie say she playin' hide-'n'-seek on Michael.

Panel 10: Lizzie asks a relieved Elly "Did I win?"

Summary: The Lynnsight associated with this mess is all about the fun habit children like Katie had of simply disappearing somewhere that grown-ups found awkward to retrieve them from. Given what happened to April and given how many accidental deaths of tender-aged children there are each year, the joke is lost on me. So is the need to be encouraged to lighten up by the Janelle Js and Diane Siracusas of this world.
