Indignant Candiru

Monday, 2 April 2012

In today's strip, Elly is martyred by the fact that three year old children have poor impulse control and are physically awkward.

(Strip Number 4317, Original Publication Date, 28 March 1983)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Elly and Lizzie making Easter cookies. Since Elly seems to be suffering fecal encephalitis and can't seem to remember that small children aren't little tiny adults, her reaction to the the perfectly normal sight of Lizzie eating the dough is not to shrug it off like the non-event it is but to simper to not do so because she can scrape the bowl later.

Panel 2: Her baffled, whiny reaction to Lizzie's over-eagerness with putting eyes on bunnies is to huffily tell her to put only one eye on each.

Panel 3: Having noticed that Lizzie has done what anyone with a brain larger than an electron would expect her to and get icing sugar all over her overalls, Elly whines that Lizzie has gotten icing sugar all over her overalls like it's a horrible surprise.

Panel 4: She then whines about how the people who said many hands make light work must never have tried making cookies with a three-year old.

Summary: Watch the Lynnsight be all about how she can't (and shouldn't be expected to) understand why the little strangers who appeared in her life for no reason she can see do all the incomprehensible, unforeseeable things they do. Things like open gates despite being told to ask some nebulous one first.
