Snarky Candiru2

We begin the "Elly and Lizzie visit Phil" with a reminder that Phil is a stupid rake-hell who carouses and plays discordant noise instead of having a job he hates, a wife he fights with and children he fears like he's supposed to.

(Strip Number 368, Original Publication Date, 21 February 1983)

Panel 1: We find Lizzie and Elly at the front door to Phil's apartment. Lizzie says that she wanna knock onna door, her, her!!!

Panel 2: Phil smiles and picks Dizzy Lizzie up in his arms; Dizzy Lizzie calls him Unca Phil.

Panel 3: Having noticed something that smells non-conformist, Elly asks Phil what that smell is. Since Lynn doesn't know the word 'tofu', Phil's horrified and disgusted comment about how everyone is into health in his place calls the symptom Elly noticed 'bean curd'.

Panel 4: He jauntily reassures her that he's still into smoking, drinking and debauchery instead of being a freaky health nut or something weird.

Summary: This is the beginning of a series of strips that remind us that Phil is a Foob just like all the others. Not only does he get all whiny and bitchy because other people want him to adapt to their way of living, he bleats about the unfairness of not being able to ride roughshod over those in his immediate vicinity. Too bad the Lynnsight will instead be about how she and Alan cannot be asked to coexist owing to his winning their childhood.
