Snarky Candiru2

Friday, 17 February 2012

Today's strip has John try to avoid looking as if he'd had no time to shop for the promised Gift From Away. Lynn clearly means it to look as if he'd just remembered his promise but it's more likely to assume that this is the first chance he'd had to shop.

(Strip Number 4302, Original Publication Date, 18 February 1983)

Panel 1: Now that John's on his way home, we find him in the airport gift shop. The clerk, who I'll call Brenda, asks him if she can help him. He tells her that he'd promised to take home gifts for his kids.

Panel 2: Brenda asks him if he'd like to buy a stuffed toy, a T-shirt or inflatable plane.

Panel 3: He says that he's actually looking for something special.

Panel 4: He then asks her if she has anything that doesn't look like it came from an airport gift shop.

Summary: The reality Lynn will ask us to accept will have Rod be too thoughtless and lazy and male to shop properly. Having rejected a reality based on holding grudges for decades, I substitute one that has him have no time owing to the convention consumed it.
