Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 12 January 2012

In today's atrocity, Lynn wants us to believe that being a hockey player encourages sass and crude behavior. So much for praising amateur sports, eh?

(Strip Number 4275, Original Publication Date, 13 January 1983)

Panel 1: We find Mike and Elly in the lobby. As he wipes his brow, he says "Man, what a tough practice. I'm bagged....totally wiped out."

Panel 2: He then flat-out tells her to give him money for a pop.

Panel 3: Her reaction is to ask him what he says and what the magic word is.

Panel 4: He bleats about the horrible vision of having to say 'please' in front of the guys.

Summary: That, I think, is the joke. It would seem that Lynn can't help but make the association between being 'one of the guys' and 'acting like a mutant on a lite beer commercial who thinks that good manners are for sissymaryboys.' This myth will, as Hyneman and Savage say, be confirmed by a Lynnsight that whines about how "the guys" want to break mothers' heart by not respecting her.
