Snarky Candiru2

In today's strip, Lizzie talks about how she felt as if she were actually being hugged by her distant grandmother.

(Strip Number 4266, Original Publication Date, 25 December 1982)

Panel 1: As the Pattersons unwrap their gifts, the telephone rings.

Panel 2: Having answered the phone, Lizzie says "It's GAMMA!! GAMMA!! WE GOTS PRESENTS AN'EVERYTHING!!"

Panel 3: Having handed the phone to Mike so that he can say high to whichever grandparent is up, Lizzie tells Elly "Gamma gived me a hug an'a kiss on the phone,' you know what?" It should be noted that since Lynn isn't making it clear that Lizzie is standing on a chair, it looks as if Elly has emerged from the floorboards like she's Bunsen Honeydew with a frightwig.

Panel 4: Lizzie then touches her hand to her cheek so as to indicate where it felt as if Marian or Carrie were physically present to kiss her as she gasps "I FEELED them!!"

Summary: This is, of course, inspired by the fact that the Ridgways lived very far from Lynn Lake and, since they were understandably cautious with their money, tended to phone Lynn on holidays instead of simply driving there and spending money that they didn't really think they were supposed to.
