Snarky Candiru2

Thursday, 8 December 2011

Elly's reassuring Mr Lee that she probably plans to ground Mike forever and inflict a lifetime ban on getting Christmas presents because listening is toooooooo haaaaaaaaaaaard and makes him the boss of her is a launching-point for the insane wish-fulfillment plot twist of his being rewarded for 'honesty' after the fact.

(Strip Number 4261, Original Publication Date, 9 December 1982)

Panel 1: We find the man I named Bob walking Elly to Harry the Manager's door and telling her that Michael is in there.

Panel 2: Having sat down, she immediately leads off by reassuring Harry that Michael will be severely punished; insert nasty remark about how living with an imbecile like her and having his horses owned because she and John are idiots with their money is punishment enough here.

Panel 3: Harry is completely baffled by this; that's because he says "Punished?! Oh, no, Mrs Patterson...."

Panel 4: "....we plan to give him a reward!!" At that, Elly's brain cell breaks because she's heard something that doesn't make sense. That's because in her mind, Michael has disgraced HER and made HER life harder and thus must be executed every day for the rest of his life.

Summary: What she should be reacting to in baffled horror is the insane moral; instead of being told that he's lucky that they'll not press charges as long as he and Lawrence don't come back, he gets a reward for doing the right thing eventually. How Lynn justifies that should drive that teacher from Biloxi insane.
