In today's strip, John and Mike don't have it in them to give Elly the encouragement she needs so she has to provide it herself.

(Strip Number 4240, Original Publication Date, 6 October 1982)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Elly holding up an issue of the Valley Voice and telling Mike and John "There you are, bottom of Page 4, "Library Corner"....by Elly Patterson."

Panel 2: John saunters off and says "Nice, Honey"; Mike mutters "That's good, Mom" before resuming watching over Lizzie.

Panel 3: Elly stands there looking mildly baffled and somewhat disappointed by their lack of real enthusiasm.

Panel 4: Not for long, though; this is because she tells herself that she's sensational.

Summary: We're once again reminded of something that we cannot escape; that inevitability is that Elly is right to say that she's not appreciated. While her litany of boredom and frustration is hard to listen to, she does have a point; after all, the only time they do notice her is when she doesn't do something.

The Podcast for 4 October 2011

I'm putting this placeholder up for whatever Lynn decides to talk about this week. Given the randomness of recent subject matter, it could be about how she really hates the fact that they sell hot dog buns in packs of ten while they sell hot dogs in packs of twelve.

Actually, she's promoting the treasuries again; Katie's organization skills are praised and Lynn marvels at how writing anything longer than a sound-bite requires her to be her own worst critic. At least we don't have to look at Ellyzilla hugging us before listening to two minutes of the blindingly obvious; we do have to listen to her talk about how if she doesn't like something, it's obvious that we won't, however.
