Snarky Candiru2

Friday, 30 September 2011

The coda of the current arc has Mike answer Lizzie's question about having a third baby in a manner that echoed John's asinine remark about the Nichols' having kept the crib.

(Strip Number 4236, Original Publication Date, 1 October 1982)

Panel 1: As the Pattersons drive home from visiting Steve and Anne at the hospital, Nizzie ask Mama why not they have 'nother baby.

Panel 2: Elly's response is to stammer incoherently.

Panel 3: Mike helps her by telling Lizzie that John and Elly can't have another baby; they freak a bit because they think that he's about to tell her where babies come from.

Panel 4: They should be reassured by the fact that he tells Lizzie that they sold the crib.

Summary: They won't be, though; that's because John would wonder why Mike stole his line and Elly would obsess about how she might get caught cribless. What they should be worried about is having a seven-year old so stupid he can look at a room of new-borns and still not get that if the baby is coming, they can always get another crib. Since they don't worry about the right things, the Mike of 2011 is constantly being surprised by the reality show "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" because he still thinks that giving away or not having cribs counts as birth control.
