Snarky Candiru2

Sunday, 18 September 2011

In today's Sunday strip, Elly more or less sleeps through her first (and only) obscene phone call. I'm not sure if I should cheer or not.

(Strip Number 7125, Original Publication Date, 19 September 1982)

Panel 1: It's late at night at the Pattermanse when the phone rings; since it's a rotary phone, it might just be redrawn. What won't be redrawn is Elly's inarticulate reacton of 'GZMF'.

Panel 2: The second ring causes her to mutter Hmmmmmmh.

Panel 3: Ring number three makes her snort herself awake.

Panel 4: Half-asleep Elly stammers out a Hullo and gets a Hi-baby-heh-heh-pant-wheeze in response.

Panel 5: Since she's still half-asleep and probably wouldn't realize that she's talking to a perv anyway, Elly asks "What?" and gets an "I said" followed by more heavy breathing and giggling.

Panel 6: The man gets kinda stridently angry because Elly is too groggy to understand what he's saying; he's still doing the heavy breathing but the perverted giggle is gone.

Panel 7: Her asking him to say that again makes the man say "Oh, for BLEEP's sake! Forget it, lady!!" and hang up.

Panel 8: Now that Elly's awake, she finally realizes what just happened and it horrifies her.

Panel 9: John asks her who that was and she tells him that it was her first obscene phone call.....

Panel 10: Her telling him that she missed it confuses the niblets out of him.

Summary: I don't know what moral we're supposed to glean from this one. Are we supposed to be glad that Elly's slowness on the uptake when she's half-asleep is stronger than perversion or what?
