Panicky Candiru

With today's strip, we begin the arc Lynn reworked into the first children's book; the establishing scene shows us that Mike is somewhat dependent on Farley and would miss him if absent.

(Strip Number 4189, Original Publication Date, 21 June 1982)

Panel 1: Today's strip could well have been a follow-on from Saturday's; that's because John looks at Mike's muddy face and asks him how he could wander around with such a dirty face.

Panel 2: As Mike walks off in a huff, John's off-camera voice tells him that he doesn't want an argument, he wants Mike's face washed now.

Panel 3: Fortunately for Mike and his anti-soap stance (which was probably inspired by Elly's muscular aggression), Farley licks his face clean.

Panel 4: John looks at Mike's smiling, less-muddy face and says that that's better.

Summary: Since Lynn would prefer we not analyze what we're seeing because it reminds her that most people put more thought into what they do than she can, we're probably in for a slam against Aaron for being dirty because that's the most superficial interpretation of what we saw. Also, ewwwwwwww; I know there's an old wives' tale about how dog's mouths are supposed to be cleaner than a human being's but, well, ewwwwwwwwwww!!!, the old wives are wrong no matter what KAN might say.
