Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 15 June 2011

We end Mrs Hardacre's involvement in the Pattersons' lives by having her impart a lesson Mike will as surely forget over the summer as his times tables.

(Strip Numer 4187, Original Publication Date, 16 June 1982)

Panel 1: It's about five seconds after Mrs Hardacre asked Mike to stay behind; she does something very unusual by looking Mike in the eye and talking to him like a human being: what she's talking about is admitting that she knows that she's been tough on him all year.

Panel 2: Her being an anomaly continues as she explains why; she had to be because she wanted him to do his best because she cares about him very much.

Panel 3: She then asks if they can be friends.

Panel 4: His smiling, hugging her and saying Good-bye to her would mean more if he'd answered her question.

Summary: Now, I know that Lynn needs for her characters to forget anything they learn so that she can have them have consistent reactions to life's demands; where things fall down is that it makes them look almost fatally forgetful and stupid. Ah, well; the Lynnsight that has her boast about how big she is to have forgiven her teachers for being mean, picky-faced liars who tried to convince her that she needed to learn certain things in order to get by in life when she knew that she knew everything she needed already will make that look like the minor annoyance it is.
