Snarky Candiru2

Tuesday, 31 May 2011

In today's strip, we get a call back to last year's exercise in making John look like a dick for his being as trusting as Elly herself is; it might look as if he wants to begrudge her her freedom but it's not that simple; Elly can hold her liquor a lot better than he can and he doesn't want himself or the kids to deal with her riding a wicked hangover in the morning.

(Strip Number 4179, Original Publication Date, 1 June 1982)

Panel 1: As Elly wonders if she passed her course, we go back to the home front; Phil tells John that she should have finished her exam right about now and that if she passed, she was going to paint the town.

Panel 2: John says that's fine with him; she deserves a night out by herself.

Panel 3: His silhouette tells Phil "Yeah, let her unwind; yup, I trust her."

Panel 4: He then asks what the time is.

Summary: The Lynnsight that complains about how Rod and the kids never seemed to want her to have free time distracts from the real problem I have with her pillorying John. First off, he's worried that she'll either come how wasted and stupid or that he might have to deal with her getting arrested for drunk driving. Second, I remember that when Jean talked about the mice playing when the cat was away, she didn't know that while JohnMickey was rock-solid loyal to his vows, EllyMinnie was making passes at waiters.
