In today's strip, we continue on with Lynn's paranoid fixation on Rod and his alleged harem. It's things like this that make me feel sorry for the people in her immediate vicinity.

(Strip Number 10197, Original Publication Date, 21 May 1982)

Panel 1: It's late at night at the Pattermanse so Elly does what she does best and ambushes John with the question "Do you ever get bored with me? Do you ever look around and wish you can be with someone else?"

Panel 2: Since John is a bit stupid and doesn't realize that there is no answer that won't feed into Elly's paranoia, he tries the most ruinous tactic possible: honesty. His stammering out "Well...uh...sure, I guess so." is proof that he might be too dumb to live.

Panel 3: So is his idiotic attempt to save his ass by reminding her that that's a normal thing and how people wouldn't be normal if they didn't compare.

Panel 4: This stupid attempt to placate her causes her to ask who he's compared her to lately.

Summary: I would have advised him to answer her initial question with "No, Elly, I don't wish I was with someone else" if I thought he would be believed; that's because his tendency to drool over pretty girls in front of her and the kids is visible proof that he is bored with her and does compare her with other women 24/7/365.

I was looking through my RSS feeds like I always do and I saw this article that put me in mind of Mike's rescuing his laptop; the only difference between the men writing the article and Lynn that isn't their love of profanity is that they can't believe that anyone could be so blasted stupid as to risk their lives like these people did. Personally, I believe that one of the reasons that the others treat April like a pariah is that she called a reckless ninny by his right name instead of buying his feeble excuses for dickery on a massive scale.
