Snarky Candiru2

Saturday, 7 May 2011

In today's effort, Phil announces his intent to be the pursuer instead of the pursued; too bad that he's locked in on something not worth the effort.

(Strip Number 4167, Original Publication Date, 8 May 1982)

Panel 1: Now that he's dealt with Lawrence's age-inappropriate reminder that he's an evil man who hasn't been around, we join Phil and Connie as they eat dinner; he leads off by telling Connie that Elly has given him a ridiculously biased account of Connie and Ted's romantic woes.

Panel 2: Since he's an idiot who doesn't realize that Elly is on the fence about his marrying Connie, he delivers the line about her thinking that his showing up is fairly bad timing without sarcasm or irony.

Panel 3: Connie sets up the punchline by telling him not to worry; she's not going to chase him just because she's on the rebound.

Panel 4: She then gets gobsmacked because he smiles and says that's good because he wants to do a little chasing of his own.

Summary: The reason she's floored is because she's a little like Pepe Le Pew; as you know, he's great at pursuing Penelope Pussycat but when she chases him, he suffers terminal input failure. Also, it's been so long since someone found her interesting enough to make the first move, she's almost forgotten what it feels like.
