Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 4 May 2011

We shift gears from Annie joining Elly in being inept to Phil being an evil, conflict-causing younger brother who evilly points out that Elly's lot is to pry into things that evil people would say don't concern her.

(Strip Number 258, Original Publication Date, 5 May 1982)

Panel 1: We start things off with Phil on the phone; since he's contractually obliged to talk like Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, he reacts to the other party's plan by saying "Yeah? Far Out? What time?"

Panel 2: He then tells Elly that Connie's invited him over for supper and that they might take in a show afterwards.

Panel 3: It would seem that Connie asked him why he had to clear things with Elly first. That's because he tells her that he knows that he doesn't have to tell her everything; he simply feels that it's only fair to clue her in.

Panel 4: We switch perspective to look at Elly getting gobsmacked because Phil told Connie "Besides, it keeps her from leaving earmarks on the wall."

Summary: When you consider that yesterday's strip had Annie ignoring Christopher so she could run her mouth about nothing and today's strip features Elly treating minding Phil's business as a higher priority than watching whatever unimportant thing that doesn't matter and won't affect anything that the baffling and scary little strangers do, it's a marvel that her children survived to have their horses owned.
