Snarky Candiru2

Today's strip heralds the next phase of the Phil/Connie/Ted experiment by having the 'nomad' begin to get 'domesticated'; let a thousand strips wherein Lynn refuses to understand Alan's way of life blossom forth.

(Strip Number 249, Original Publication Date, 19 April 1982)

Panel 1: We start off with Phil talking on the phone; since Lynn wants to remind us that he's 'wasting his life' as an 'itinerant musician' instead of being needlessly miserablesensible like Elly by having him talk like Maynard G Krebs. This means that he says things like "Hi, Sis! How's things? Far out! An'you?" as a greeting.

Panel 2:: He gets immediately to his point about how she's not going to believe it but he got a teaching job at the university where she pretends that she's getting her English degree.

Panel 3: He'll thus be coming out to Milboring to live for a while; he then sets up the 'joke' by repeating Elly's question of when.

Panel 4: "When" turns out to be as soon as she can fold out the hide-a-bed; Elly is, of course, mildly horrified.

Summary: As am I; this is because I'm staring down the barrel of a thousand passive-aggressive comments about how awful it is that Merv and Ursula liked Alan better despite his not doing what she only thought that they expected of her and, well, not being as sadistic and demanding a bully as a child. We're also going to get an annotation as to how humorless he is for not wanting to be pilloried in public any longer.
