Snarky Candiru2

Tuesday, 1 March 2011

Today's strip is the first in a mini-arc about Mike's hockey team; the point of it is to talk about how skilled they aren't and how nuts hockey parents are.

(Strip Number 4137, Original Publication Date, 2 March 1982)

Panel 1: As our story continues, we see Mike, who's in his uniform, telling John, who's putting on his coat, to hurry up or they're gonna be late for the big game.

Panel 2: As they drive to the stadium, Mike says that he can't want and hopes that his team wins.

Panel 3: He tells the back of John's head that he's not kidding when he says they've got some neat players.

Panel 4: Why, some of them can even skate and hit the puck at the same time!! John smiles because he's thinking about his own times playing hockey. Elly, on the other hand, looks as if she's about to get her teeth drilled; that's because winter sports bore, confuse and, to an extent, frighten her.

Summary: The important thing should be that they have fun, win or lose. The problem is not just that Mike vaguely resents losing; the problem is, well, insane idiots like Gordo's dad who take it waaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.

ETA: The latest banner is a reminder that eventually, the snow will finally all melt.

Getting to the heart of an issue....

Now that the month of February has pretty much come to its end, it seems sort of odd to have to remember something about it that I had expected to be commemorated in one of Lynn's banners: the fact that it's Heart and Stroke Month. Used to be that we could count on a banner reminding us of that because of the situation with Jim. This year, however, no such banner appeared. Is this because his stroke is decades away or because she'd rather we forgot her not-very-well researched story line?

ETA: Just got an e-mail from Beth; the reason we're not looking at Jim is that we've got twenty years to go until he strokes out again.
