Today's strip reminds us that Elly's parenting style can best be summarized by the phrase "Do as I say, not as I hope you never find out I do."

(Strip Number 7106, Original Publication Date, 31 January 1982)

Panel 1: We start out on a fine winter day as Elly smiles at the storefront if Sobie's Bakery; the reason is his rich assortment of doughnuts.

Panel 2: As the man at the counter looks on, she selects the doughnuts she'd like to buy.

Panel 3: We now fast-forward a bit as she brings them in the house; Mike wants to see the doughnuts she's bought and Lizzie wanna doughnut, wanna jam one. Elly's declaration of 'after supper' sets up the conflict.

Panel 4: Since she doesn't think that she's allowed to give in and since she can never really admit that children see time passing at a different rate than she does lest she admit to being a huffy buffoon causing pointless suffering, Elly turns her back and closes her eyes when Mike grabs onto her leg and pleads pathetically for even half a doughnut.

Panel 5: She then flatly declares that no, they are for AFTER dinner and that's that.

Panel 6: Mike and Lizzie slump off as Elly puts the rest of the groceries away.

Panel 7: Mike then motions to Lizzie to be quiet as they go back to the kitchen.

Panel 8: A delighted Mike yells AH HAH!!!

Panel 9: Reason: as expected, Elly is cramming her face full of doughnuts.

Summary: I don't know about you but I have GOT to see how the Lynnsight justifies this. Possibly Lynn will turn into a Philadelphia lawyer and exclaim that she said nothing about the doughnuts not being for before Elly's supper.

Dee someone with so little of a spine she shouldn't be in our phylum

Okay I decided to read the glurgy Mike Dee wedding strips and while I do think Mira was being overly controlling I noticed two things.
One Mira was demonized into being a homophobe (And did the homophobia ever come up again cause I don't know but I guess probably no) and getting angry at her daughter living in sin (hypocrite as Elly did the same)
2. Even if we accept that Mira really is a homophobe and wasn't forced into saying that by Lynn why the fuck did Dee not cut ties with her.  seriously if she was that homophobic and the fact that Mike's best friend is gay, it wouldn't work.  What are we supposed to love our parents even if they abuse us as control freaks who dictate who we can be friends with?
