In today's strip, Elly seems to be somewhat unaware that the mother hen in Connie is at odds with the seeker towards gender equality; 'twas ever thus. After all, when Lawrence really needed someone to intercede on his behalf, she turned into a submissive little wifey with the morals of a blowsy old fright living in the 1880s.

(Strip Number 4045, Original Publication Date, 13 August 1981)

Panel 1: We start off with Bug-Eyed Elly, who's got Barnacle Lizzie in her standard docked position, confronting Connie as she puts away her groceries. One can imagine that the veins in Elly's neck are standing out like stalks of celery as she makes the realization that Connie was the one who really kept the house clean while she and John were stupidly sitting in a vermin-infested hovel because they didn't have the sense God gave an ant.

Panel 2: Connie, who's reverted to looking like Mrs Beasly, allows as how she noted that Teddy was having trouble doing dishes so one thing led to another; the reason that this statement doesn't throw me for a loop is that I remember that she and Elly think that there's only one method of doing things so any variance from divine law cannot be tolerated.

Panel 3: Since Goggle-Eyed Elly cannot seem to remember that Connie's commitment to feminist ideals lasts only so long as she's not in a relationship, she splays her tendril-like fingers out in that revolting and silly palms-out gesture and says "Connie! After all your lectures about men being able to look out for themselves."

Panel 4: Connie reveals her true colors and baffles the crap out of a clueless, insensitive clod who can't learn from the past by simpering that some of them are so helpless.

Summary: How very odd that neither Elly or Annie ever seem to twig to something that's way too obvious; both women don't seem to make the connection between Connie being in a relationship and her transmogrifying into someone Junie Cleaver would call a doormat. Speaking of Elly and Annie and their need to not understand this basic fact, their doing so over the phone tomorrow collides with Mike's need to call attention to himself by any means necessary.

Something old, something new, something confirmed.....

It would seem that my idle speculation that TPTB would only announce the advent of the New-Ruin Treasury after the new server started to come on-line has some merit to it. Here's how it's being promoted on-site:

And you wonder why I used to call her StaLynn. The self-congralutory tone and disconnect from reality take you back to the days wherein Pravda led off with an editorial praising the Maximum Leader for his guidance because the potato harvest went well.
