Snarky Candiru2

Wednesday, 28 July 2010

In today's strip, we see the Pattersons try three ineffective means of descenting Farley: shaving off all of his fur, bathing him in tomato juice and threatening Michael with physical harm.

(Strip Number 4040, Original Publication Date, 29 July 1981)

Panel 1: We start off with a close-up on Mike; he asks Ma if she couldn't just wash the skunk off of Farley instead of having to shave him too.

Panel 2: As he reminds that that he doesn't know if he could live with a bald dog, we zoom out to watch a very angry John and Elly bathing a very uncomfortable Farley in tomato juice. As Lizzie holds her nose in disgust, John tells Mike that if he wants to live to see another birthday....

Panel 3: ....he'll KEEP QUIET!!!!!!

Summary: First off, skunk spray tends to sink into the skin of the targeted animal which means that shaving him would have done no good. Second, a peroxide/baking soda/laundry detergent compound is recommended to neutralize the odor because tomato juice doesn't actually work. Third, getting all bent out of shape at your son because the folk remedy isn't working is the act of a dick. Fourth and finally, this is what the dumb SOBs deserve for bringing Farley with them in the first place. As for why there's no "Low-res" version on the catalog, Lynn probably didn't want to ruin the clipping on the other side of the paper owing to a fixation on the Royals.
