Bulletin: John and Elly find the complaints of children who've been cooped up in a car far too long for their liking to be an unpleasant shock and irritating inconvenience; Film at 11.

(Strip Number 4035, Original Publication Date, 13 July 1981)

Panel 1: We start off with the hoverwagon driving along one of the backroads that John loves because he's able to avoid highway-style gridlock; the fact that he's taking a short-cut that multiplies his travel time and family's discomfort means nothing to our boy. What does mean something to him and Elly is that the children are vocally uncomfortable; we see them trading back angry commentary -"She's got more raisins than me", "He got hims leg on my seat", "GIMME!!", "Stop looking at me!!, "I wanna drink", "Are we there yet??", "WAAAAAAHHHH!!!!" - which makes their parents infuriated.

Panel 2: John growls "I wonder if anyone's ever developed a rear ejection seat for a station wagon?"

Summary: Sadly, it's CIMH time for me and my siblings; I too had a foolhardy parent who expected us to sit quietly while he drove down a trackless waste without anything to divert our attention from how boring it was to do nothing and go nowhere because he wanted to waste time saving it.

Another Perspective on the Patterfleas

DanielBT, who has a comic-themed blog but no lj account, asked me to share his blog entry about the ubiquitous "fleas" we see in the Patterworld: "Dots Everywhere!"

I thought it was curious that he focused on the use of this device for Farley, when Lynn often uses it for humans. I spent waaaayyyyy too much time going through some of the monthly archives watching for "fleas" and I broke them into two categories, "Gratuitous/random" and "Eating."
