Snarky Candiru2

Friday, 9 July 2010

Elly responds to Mike's enthusiasm and impatience with one of her lesser characteristic forms of behavior: a demeaning put-down.

(Strip Number 147, Original Publication Date, 10 July 1981)

Panel 1: We start off with Mike walking down the hallway in full skin-diving gear generating lots of sound effects; he's got the snorkel, the mask and flippers and he's in his trunks. Elly's response is to yell "Michael, settle down! We are not leaving until tomorrow!!"

Panel 2: Elly sticks her tongue out in discomfort in response to Mike's spinning in place and telling her that he doesn't want to drive to the cabin, tomorrow, he wants to go NOW!!

Panel 3: Elly smiles a greasy smile as she leans down, hands him the map and says "Great! Here's the map; you start running and we'll catch up."

Summary: It's never a good idea to be a wise-ass when you're talking to a child; since Mike wouldn't know sarcasm if it seized up and bit him, I believe that a fourth panel would have Elly stopping him from running to Ted's cabin.
