Snarky Candiru2

Monday, 23 March 2009

As you've no doubt figured out, this week's story line will be dominated by John's Night Out with Ted. Lynn clearly plans on making him not only a failure as a care-giver but also a selfish adulterer who's busy making a fool of poor, trusting Elly.

Panel 1: We start off with Ted taking John to what dim suburbanites like them think an English pub is like. It's probably just me but I think calling the place the Swig and Swine is far too obvious.

Panel 2: John's toast "Well, here we are --- to us" sounds eerily like the Best Friends Forever nonsense that the bridesmaids spouted during the Settlepocalypse. Ted's response of "To life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is hardly better.

Panel 3: As a waitress, who looks like a teenaged Meredith, catches his attention, Ted says that he's found some happiness he'd like to pursue.

Panel 4: She asks him if she can get them something else. Ted tells her "Sure -- you're something else."

Panel 5: Instead of asking if his friend is having a stroke, having just made no sense and all, John barks "tone it down, man!" Ted continues to spout Phil-Ken-Sebben like gibberish by promising to do so after he's done cranking it up.

Summary: We might actually be in for an Aesop about how John should be grateful that he doesn't need to worry about pursuing happiness, it being both irrelevant and overrated.
