Panel 1: The thing is, Deanna, it's not how much time he spent WRITING the book. He was the author from the moment he started it. It was a book as soon as he finished it (assuming the letters corroborate the strip, and he did rewrites in addition to spewing his turgid prose for the first draft). The triumph is in getting it published, and the struggle is the EFFORT to FIND a publisher. Which we have not seen him do.

Panel 2: Yeah, helped by keeping her yap shut and herself and the brats out of the way.

Panel 3: Aha.

Panel 4: ...

Uh, what?

Okay, I get it. She supported him by basically worshipping him and putting his needs ahead of her own. And trusting in fate. Or faith. Or whatever.


ETA: OMG! Is that supposed to mean that he knew she was jilling off every night in his absence?!
