Panel 1: We find Cecily and Maeve cruising Belfrey Street for some reason. Said reason is to have Maeve point out that this is the apartment she thinks John fled to and for Cecily to ask why he left Elly.
Panel 2: Maeve says that the gossip network says that it's for a woman named Fiona. As she does so, Cecily points out that John's car is pulling up.
Panel 3: In order to keep the misunderstanding going until June when it quietly peters out without getting really resolved or mentioned again, Cecily says that he's got her with her so they'd better go before being seen. Maeve muses that Fiona must be some kind of babe if he'd just run off after her like that.
Panel 4: We laugh at Maeve and Cecily because not-at-all-a-babe Fiona tells John to be super-careful with the heavy suitcase he's lugging because her wine is in it.
Summary: The point of things is to make Maeve, Cecily and Jean look concerned but not get their facts straight so Lynn can 'rant' about gossip and how it makes us stupid. What it also allows Lynn to do is 'rant' about all the people who didn't tell the real Loretta about the affair her husband was having.
