Panel 1: To answer John's question from Saturday, Elly tells him that Cecily Beard just called and asks if there's something going on that she doesn't know about. John gets all smiley when he talks about his renting an apartment.
Panel 2: He then says that it's for Fiona; he paid her first and last month's rent (because Lynn doesn't know what a security deposit or credit check is) and she can move in today before asking how wonderful it is. Goggle-Eyed Elly asks "You paid her rent?"
Panel 3: Since she magically knows how much rent for a one-bedroom apartment is, Elly says that he just blew a thousand bucks and says that if Fiona goes, she could put them in debt.
Panel 4: His response is to say "If she stays, she could put them in therapy."
Summary: What really interests me is not just that Elly is more focused on how much it costs to remove a relative, it never once occurs to her to explain what John thinks he's doing to her friends.
