Panel 1: Having been successfully conned, John tells Elly that Fiona cannot leave because she's not well. Elly hasn't been given a chance to fall for her tragedy plea yet so says that she's as healthy as a horse. We get why Fiona made the assumption that John is acting on orders when she says that he has to tell her point blank that she's gotta go.
Panel 1.5 Elly stares at us through a porthole and says "If you don't do it...I will!!"
Panel 2: Before Elly can lecture her about being messy and lazy and smoking and letting cats prowl around so GIT!!!, Fake-Wheezing Fiona blubbers about what a frightful nuisance she is and how kind it is of the Pattersons to put up with a bother like her.
Panel 3: Elly's fear that she is actually going to tell an emphysema victim to live in the streets and die makes her get all syrupy about how silly Fiona is being because they want her to stay.
Panel 4: When John whispers "So....struck out, huh?", Elly whispers that they're up against a pro.
Summary: This makes a nonsense of John's victims of our own generosity speech because Fiona does know that they'd prefer it is 'removed' meant something that works out for them.
