Panel 1: When John asks the policeman if they can go faster, he says "Not without landing in the ditch."
Since the wheels are clearly at least three inches from a road surface, I don't see how that matters myself but then I don't live in a world of police hovercruisers. Also, since he looks a lot like the man who said he hates lawyers, I'm going to call the policeman Murdoch.
Panel 2: Since John explained WHY he jumped out into the street and tripped Murdoch's "this man is clearly a looter" senses, Murdoch gets all chummy and asks if this is their first baby. John says no but this might be the first baby born at home. Since he knows things Elly doesn't, this is a concern to him.
Panel 3: We again set up a joke at his expense when he tells Murdoch that his son assured him over the phone that there was no need to worry because Elly is in competent hands.
Panel 4: John ends up getting a citation for damaging city property when he sees the Mario's Pizza van with the WE DELIVER sign on the roof. That's because he just voided where prohibited so Lynn could call him a stooooooopid idiot who thought the pizza guy delivered his baby.....and a size order of cheese sticks.
Summary: As I've said before, John assumed that he'd be coming home to a dead wife, dead baby or dead wife and baby the second he heard the news and this just made him more certain. Since Lynn is an ass, his crying tomorrow is a sign of weakness.
