Panel 1: As John gets ready to head out to work, Elly tells Mike to make his own lunch because she can't do everything at once only for him to ask who ate all the cold cuts. Given the setting, it's likely that he can find the culprit by looking in a mirror.
Panel 2: Instead of telling him "You did, Prototype Jeremy Duncan", Elly tells Liz to put a sweater on and to get her boots off of the carpet. As Mike asks who let Farley out (you did, baby!), Liz yells for Mom because her homework is not where she left it and oh, crap, she was telling the truth last Friday, wasn't she? Meanwhile, John is putting his winter coat on and leaving Elly to deal with the crazy people.
Panel 3: We find him in his car in a state of ecstasy because he has found peace and tranquility at last.
Panel 4: He is Lynn today because he finds his peace in rush hour traffic.
Summary: This is why John eventually retreats to his workshop and lives in a locomotive-related fantasy capsule: there's enough Lynn in him to want to avoid people lest he too be overwhelmed by someone else's day-to-day life.
