Panel 1: A short while after doing something futile, Mike declares having to shovel snow manually ridiculous and decides that he's going to use the snowblower.
This is because of his love of the idea of solutions that don't require effort on his part and a belief that anything with a motor must be faster than doing things by hand.
Panel 2: We next see him struggling to get the blasted noisy thing in gear and cursing the thing for not allowing him to be a big shot.
Panel 3: He then disturbs John to complain that he's tried and tried and can't get the snowblower to turn over.
Panel 4: When John tells him that the snowblower won't start when it's cold, Mike does that deer in a headlights thing we see far too often.
Summary: A smart person would realize that he should probably use the shovel again and avoid wasting time on something that won't work. Guess what The Human Doorstop does.
