Panel 1: We find ourselves at the Eastgate Mall today. As Elly does some window shopping, we note that she's attracted the attention of three people siiting in front of a Havva Cuppa Coffee (and totally not a Tim Horton's) we've never seen before and will never see again.
Panel 2: Lady With Glasses says "She couldn't be", Man With Moustache tells Lady With Glasses to look at the way she walks while Lady With Overbite says "Come on....do you really think so" because only Man With Moustache thinks that Elly might be in the family way.
Panel 3: Moustache and Overbite bet that Elly is pregnant while Glasses bets she isn't.
Panel 4: The three greet Elly so that Elly can say that it's been ages since she met the Truddley family.
Panel 5: Mr Truddley says that she looks fine. Mrs Truddley (Glasses) says she looks well. Elly cuts Ms Truddley (Overbite) off in mid-sentence so she can say that that she looks pregnant.
Panel 6: Elly tells tham that the baby is due in March.
Panel 7: When Mrs and Ms Truddley express disbelief, Elly tells them that she and John didn't believe it themselves for a while.
Panel 8: Ms Truddley says that she looks fabulous, Mrs Truddley hints at the punchline when she says that people would have found it hard to guess and Mr Truddley says that people could hardly tell.
Panel 9: When Mrs Truddley congratulates Elly on the the delightful, romantic and wonderful surprise and says how thrilled they are for her, I think that we're about to see another case in which the strip should have cut off at this point.
Panel 10: My hunch is proven correct when Mr Truddley can't even wait until Elly is out of earshot before asking his wife to pay up. The realization that Mrs Truddley thought that she was just getting fat leaves her goggle-eyed.
Summary: I think that it might be safe to remove these people from the Christmas card list if they're going to pull this kind of crap.
