Panel 1: As Elly takes something out of the oven, Weekdayverse Michael says that whatever it is smells good and asks what it is. She says (zucchini) muffins.
Panel 2: Elly has an attack of amnesia when she hears Mike opine that she looks real domestic these days what with the cleaning up, baking stuff and hanging around the kitchen. This is because she's forgotten that this is the same dolt who said that back when she was racing around cleaning up after his lazy ass and didn't have a job and stuff, she was a real mother.
Panel 3: She is shocked by the reminder that he ain't changed a whole helluva lot when he calls her attention to the old saying about keeping a woman barefoot and pregnant. It's his turn to have amnesia because he can never be bothered to remember that the idea of (being reminded that she's wasted her life) catering to his whims enrages her.
Panel 4: He is reminded of this person when Rage-Faced Elly grabs him by the shirt and he says to himself "They must not say it very often."
Summary: Michael never bothered outgrowing the belief that Elly was born to cater to his whims non-stop and thus regards her yearning for more to be an unnatural and cruel horror. This is why his acquisition of a mommy-wife is seen as a happy ending instead of the abomination it and he are.
