As Elly says that her imperfect, self-serving memory of her teenage years helps her "survive" the teenage years of the children she's always been too bloody fragile to deal with, let's pause to reflect on the fact that next week, we get to see the reason that isn't trying to make up for years of half-assing it why Elly is against young love: her throwing herself at an older boy who just wasn't into her.

Panel 1: When Elly asks Connie if she thinks that Mike was embarrassed to see him and Martha together in public, Connie says that sure, he was.

Panel 2: When asked if she remembers what it was like to be a teenager, Elly says that of course she does. (It should be noted at this point that Lynn is attempting to shout down the people who say that Elly does not. This is because Lynn and her fanbase don't admit that it's not what you remember that counts, it's the conclusion you draw from an experience that truly matters. Next week, we see that when we see the disconnect between what Elly saw as happening and what really happened.)

Panel 3: She goes on to say that she tries to remember everything about a teenager.

Panel 4: She then goes all goggle-eyed in horror when she says (and means) that it helps her survive having one.

Summary: Next week, we get a load of bullcrap about how love is a disease that blights the species because Elly threw herself at someone she stood no chance with. Today, a reminder that Elly is the panicky nutcase who reacted to Lizzie starting to develop an identity by screaming in blind panic about her sweet little baby being replaced by a deceitful monster who wants to kill and eat her pooooooooooor mother.

Also, it's appropriate that this land on Star Wars Day. That's because there is in Elly much fear. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to KABOOM.
