Panel 1: We start things off with Mike getting out of bed of a school-day morning and leaving a mess behind him. Since this strip is written for crazy women by a crazy woman, this clearly means that he's an adversary to be defeated instead of a plain-vanilla slob who'll grow out of it on his own.
Panel 2: Liz looks on as he brushes his teeth and makes a mess of things by leaving the cap off of the toothpaste and knocking over the tumbler people use to rinse their mouths out after.
Panel 3: As he just fires a towel on the floor instead of putting it away like a boy who doesn't want his poor mother to suffer the agonies of the damned, Liz asks him why he always leaves a mess behind him in every room he's been in.
Panel 4: He glowers like she's a big idiot and tells her that he works best in a familiar environment.
Summary: What Elly never had the courage or decency to face is the fact that her habit of grabbing things at random because their presence drove her to distraction pretty much turned Mike into the budding hoarder we see here. Add that to the fact that kids take their own sweet time understanding that things don't walk themselves to garbage bins and laundry hampers and you've got a recipe for a week of "How Not To Cope With Those Around You."
