Panel 1: The following morning, we find Mike reminding Elly that John is gonna freak when he sees what she did to his car.
Panel 2: She then does that stupid palms-out thing when she explains that there's no way the accident could have been avoided (which is a lie) and it wasn't her fault (which is a half-truth).
Panel 3: She then sets up the punchline by explaining that there's nothing to worry about in the first place because John is a calm, rational person (which is so much of a fucking lie, I don't know why she isn't struck down by a thunderbolt).
Panel 4: We see how calm and rational he is when he bellows in blind rage that he doesn't care if the manager is in Perth, Australia because he wants to bellow about the broken hide-a-bed right the Hell now.
Summary: Elly seems to be at pains to lie to Michael about how she too fears John's volcanic temper but I doubt that she fooled him. This is because I know what's ahead: John standing around howling like a five year old because a material object got smacked into. I also remember the past and recall a jerk who's all smiles so long as someone else is inconvenienced but pitches a fit if his feathers get ruffled for once.
