Anyway, being away from this community, and more importantly, being away from full-time modern-day FOOB updates for just over a decade now has allowed me to look back over the storylines and developments in a new light. Maybe it's my own development, or maybe it's just that when you read a comic strip regularly for years, you tend to overlook just how absurd the world LJ has presented truly is.
In light of that, I've decided to create a new post about a new game of mine entitled, as above, DID SHE REALLY....? Basically it's both a test of my potentially faulty memory as well as a reflection of just how absurd FOOB got. I indicate something I remember from my days of reading FBOW and all its supplemental material (usually updated for me since I wouldn't actually read those damn letters most months) and wonder.... DID SHE REALLY....?
So let's begin!
DID SHE REALLY....?
Claim that Therese forced Anthony to grow his mustache after it became clear he was being savagely mocked for that dumb thing, and that 2 YEAR-OLD FRANCOISE suggested that he shave it off because it made him look old, so he did?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have Mike run back into a massive house fire to save a laptop with his novel on it, potentially leading to him burning to death in front of his family and putting the emergency workers on-site at risk saving him, when he had a backup copy of said novel off-site?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have John suggest to Deanna that she and Mike buy what would become The Tiny Train House, assuming that they would let him build absurd model train sets on it, after which he was horrified to discover that Deanna thought it might be wise to, you know, use the property as if she owns it?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have Elly claim that when Liz slipped and fell on the ice outside a hotel party, that it was Therese's fault because she wasn't polite to Liz earlier?
DID SHE REALLY....?
At that same party, have Liz and her two girlfriends in the bathroom gossiping about how terrible Therese is, have Anthony come to the party with HIS WIFE, the very pregnant Therese, where he ended up abandoning her and following Liz around like a damn puppy, before telling Liz that HIS WIFE Therese has no reason to feel jealous?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Continuing on with that same party, have Anthony watch Liz forlornly through the window as she left, so he could see her fall and rescue her, after which he suggests in front of HIS VERY PREGNANT WIFE that Liz wouldn't have been hurt if he had been with her?
(Ed. note: suddenly, the "logic" being employed here becomes clear to me. It's still absurd, but it's clear)
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have Best Man Mason get shitfaced at Shawna-Marie's wedding, have Liz abandon him passed out on the head table and later claim that Mason got so shitfaced because he forgot that his prescription medications don't go well with alcohol? (Seriously, I remember her doing that but I can't possibly understand why she felt the need to)
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have THE BRIDE Shawna-Marie wander around her wedding reception wondering where Liz went?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have Shawna-Marie ask Anthony's goblin-like date, Julia, where Liz was, despite there being no evidence that she had any idea who she was? And that rather than take advantage of the obviously open bar and meet new people, Julia decides to spend her time at this wedding reception watching her direct manager from her job make out in the bushes with his high school girlfriend?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Never have Julia show up again after that wedding reception, even though she was the person who encouraged Anthony to pursue Liz?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Never have Anthony ask Liz some version of "Will you marry me?"
DID SHE REALLY....?
Forget Gary and Vivan Crane's surname, and bother showing them coming to Liz's wedding, but never showing Liz talking to them?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Claim that Warren spontaneously offered to fly Liz up to Mtinkywinky one day early because he knew Paul was cheating on Liz with Susan and wanted her to catch him? And that he knew that they were cheating because some rando in a bar somewhere miles from anywhere told him? And he knew Liz's travel plans just because? AND IT WORKED?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have Liz learn most of her intimate knowledge about Anthony's relationship with HIS WIFE Therese from Mike?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have Token Gay Friend And Guy Who Won Her Accolades By Coming Out Lawrence say that he was glad Canada had marriage equality, but he wasn't actually going to marry his boyfriend, with whom he'd had a committed relationship for over a decade at that point?
DID SHE REALLY....?
Have Connie drive Phil's pipe from Toronto to Montreal to give it back to him, and then run away in tears when a woman answered his door?
This is getting too long as it is. I'll probably come back to supplement it. But anyway, join in and play along! What do YOU find newly absurd now that you have some temporal distance from when these stories first came out?
