Panel 1: It would appear that Lynn got bored with having to draw the perm so we find Elly back at the salon telling Marie that she just wants a little off the ends. Marie is okay with this.
Panel 2: She then tells Elly how lucky she is to have such nice hair. Since Elly doesn't realize what Marie means by that, she thanks her.
Panel 3: She then thought-bubbles that there's nothing like a trip to the salon to raise one's spirits.
Panel 4: Elly's spirits sink like a stone when Marie tells her that her colour like totes hides the grey. Since she never seems to want to understand that the darker the hair, the earlier and more garish greying looks, she's mortified.
Summary: And so we say a permanent farewell to Marie as Lynn rehashes a familiar story arc: "Elly panics because she thinks that she's far older looking than she actually is". What Lynn loses sight of is by having her hero discover this for the first time every damned year is that it makes Elly look like a high-functioning alcoholic whose brain is a God-damned Etch-A-Sketch. It would be better if she were to have her say "When I was younger, I thought I looked older but I know better now because now, I (falsely) think that I'm a crone."
