Panel 1: When Mike declares himself to be finished, Elly tells him how poor of a job he did because she thinks that the more like shit he feels, the better a mother she is. After all, how is he going to learn what to do if she shows him what to do? That means she'll end up doing EVERYTHING anyway so it's best to passively aggressively stew and hope he picks things up by osmosis.
Panel 2: Lynn and Elly would prefer that no one ask questions about Elly doing it herself or showing him how to use the mower when she points out that he left the side of the house no one sees anyway and patches with big-ass rocks in them not mowed.
Panel 3: When she makes that stupid-ass pleading gesture and asks if he takes pride in the things he does, he says 'Sure.'
Panel 4: He makes more sense than Lynn or Elly would like him to when he thought-bubbles that a chore imposed on him because someone took offense to what he said isn't something he's proud of.
Summary: Elly will die never understanding that her all stick and no carrot approach is why it took years for Mike to help without being nagged. This is because she is all three of George Carlin's People To Avoid: she's fucking stupid, she's full of shit and she's fucking nuts.
