(Strip Number 5134, Original Publication Date, 22 May 1989)
Panel 1: We find Elly standing around looking like a pole-axed ewe because, having declared that supper looks good, Mike asks if he can eat it in front of the television. Reason: she has banned television for two weeks and she's stupid enough to think that Mike isn't trying to figure out a way around her latest insane ukase.
Panel 2: Elly's not for turning because she says whatever he's planning won't do any good because she doesn't want that on for two weeks.....or until Liz objects and makes her feel like the insane freak she is.
Panel 3: She reverts to being baffled when he says that he isn't going to turn the set on but just wants to eat in front of it.
Panel 4: When he makes an irritating crack about coming back for dessert during the 'commercial', she goes back to being angry.
Summary: The reason for her anger is revealed Friday when she pulls the same sort of annoying stunt she does when she looks in the mirror and declares that for the first time ever, she feels like an old lady is staring back her. We know that the paradise in which she and the kids got along just fine up until Mike Went Too Far is as fake as the past where she was fine with her looks but admitting that would be like admitting that she's playing favourites or that she's setting herself up to fail by not actually giving him access to books that might interest him.
