Panel 1: As John balances the dental surgery's accounts, we find Elly at the window noting to her astonishment that despite it being rather pleasant outside, the two of them are working in a stuffy house.
Panel 2: John asks Elly to open the door and let some of the beautiful day inside.
Panel 3: Having done so, she notices to her displeasure that a not-so-beautiful part of the day is now inside; that's because Farley comes in tracking mud all over the back hallway.
Summary: The odd thing about this is not that he does tracks in mud and that this astonishes Elly who probably still wonders why he never learned to wipe his feet before he came in the house. As we'll see, the odd part is that he's not howling in pain because of what was done to him.
