(Strip Number 6050, Original Publication Date, 30 December 1988)
Panel 1: Elly does something she rarely does and apologizes to Bev for yelling at her and perhaps hurting her feelings. Since Bev understands what made her yell, she says that it's okay. This is because she's been around the block and can see when a person would rather passive-aggressively stew about a problem than actually confront someone.
Panel 2: Since Elly is at pains to not admit that watching her clever plan implode has made her angry, she spouts nonsense about despite all the attempts the Cruikshanks have allegedly made to make them feel comfortable, she and the others not being used to so much togetherness. This, as howtheduck reminds us, is an attempt by Lynn to deflect criticism of the hatchet job she's done on the real Cruikshanks by saying "I was only joking."
Panel 3: Since Bev knows what Elly really means, she tells her to not worry because they'll be home soon, things will be back to normal and Elly won't have to worry about this until next summer. Elly wants to know what she means by that.
Panel 4: When she tells her of John's very clever plan to "invite" the Cruikshanks over to the Pattermanse over the summer, Elly is gobsmacked.
Summary: As we know and John knows, none of the Cruikshanks can actually make that commitment. Elly doesn't know that and is going to spend the winter and spring preparing for an eventually that is never going to occur. Serves her right for not having the honesty to tell these stupid people what they're doing wrong. Also, her attempt to walk things back fails because of tomorrow's strip.
