(Strip Number 5063, Original Publication Date, 21 December 1988)
Panel 1: As he rakes some hay to put in on the barn floor, Lizzie asks Danny if he's putting it down for the calves. He says that yes, he is.
Panel 2: As she stares at one of the pigs in what can only be called disgusted fascination, he also says yes when Lizzie reminds him that Jesus was born in a manger with cows and lambs and chickens.
Panel 3: We get an awkward pause as she's about to ask him something.
Panel 4: When that something is "Did it smell this bad?", his reaction to the realization that his eight year old niece isn't used to the aroma of barnyard animals makes Danny look as if he's just had a crippling stroke.
Summary: Would it kill Lynn to show a reaction to an obvious question that isn't confusion and horror? It would seem so. It would also seem that Lizzie is about to absorb an incoherent lecture about how she's become disconnected from the living world because she doesn't have to deal with the stench of manure on a daily basis.
